G. Radhakrishnan, a prominent agricultural expert, has been inducted into the World Agriculture Forum (WAF) Council, joining a distinguished group of global leaders committed to advancing sustainable agricultural development. The WAF, headquartered in Amsterdam and modeled after the World Economic Forum, brings together thought leaders, innovators, business executives and policymakers to address critical challenges in agriculture, food security and environmental sustainability.
The WAF serves as a neutral platform where nations, industries, experts, and institutions can converge to address pressing global agricultural challenges. The Forum’s goal is to catalyze dynamic growth, promote sustainability, and ensure food security while fostering economic prosperity and environmental stewardship.
Radhakrishnan’s induction into the WAF Council is a recognition of his significant contributions to agriculture, particularly through his leadership in the Feed the Future Insect-Resistant Eggplant Partnership (IREP). At IREP, he has championed innovative approaches to pest-resistant crops, improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in South Asia and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. His work aligns closely with the WAF’s mission to foster a future where agriculture is both productive and sustainable, benefiting people and the planet.
Radhakrishnan is also President of the Life Science Advisory Group at Sathguru Management Consultants, with 21 years of experience in the seed industry. He has held global leadership roles in R&D at Nunhems, formerly affiliated with Bayer and now part of BASF, specializing in phytopathology, breeding and sustainable agricultural innovation. He holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi and has received numerous awards for his work in agriculture.
The World Agriculture Forum was conceived during the Global Agriculture Summit in 2017 in New Delhi and further refined at the World Food Summit in Des Moines in 2019. It provides a neutral platform for global collaboration, fostering innovation and inclusivity to ensure a resilient and thriving food system for future generations.
“I am deeply honored to be part of the World Agriculture Forum Council,” said Radhakrishnan. “This platform provides an incredible opportunity to contribute to transformative agricultural solutions that are urgently needed to address the challenges of our time. I look forward to collaborating with global leaders to promote innovation and sustainability in agriculture.”
The WAF envisions a future where agriculture thrives through innovation and collaboration. The Council will focus on advancing technology, policy, trade, and investment to support sustainable practices and enhance food security worldwide. The WAF is chaired by Prof. Rudy Rabbinge, former Science Council Chairman of CGIAR, and co-chaired by leaders such as Amb. Kenneth Quinn, President Emeritus of the World Food Prize Foundation, Prof. Lindiwe Sibanda, Chairperson of the CGIAR Systems Board, and Dr. William Dar, former Director General of ICRISAT.
