Dr. Mahmuda Khatun is working as a Chief Scientific Officer and Head in the Biotechnology Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. She obtained B.Sc.Ag (Hons) and M.Sc. degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. She started her research carrier in the field of plant biotechnology in 1995 and obtained Ph. D degree in Plant Breeding from the Central Luzon State University, Philippines where she received an award for outstanding performance in Ph. D dissertation defense examination. She published more than 30 research articles in the National and International Scientific Journals and supervised several MS students’ research in different Universities in Bangladesh. She has developed 20 tissue cultured protocols for the production of large number of plantlets in different horticultural crops. She worked with Agricultural Biotechnology Support Project II funded by USAID where 4 Bt Brinjal varieties were developed and she acted as a team member. Presently, she is working as PI of the Feed the Future Insect Resistant Eggplant Partnership project and also involved in Global Biotech Potato Partnership project as PI and trial manager for the development of 3R-gene late blight resistance potato variety. She is a Member Secretary of the Institutional Biosafety Committee and Field level Biosafety Committee.
