Dr. Lourdes D. Taylo is the Project Leader of the Bt Eggplant-Philippines since 2021. She was conferred as Career Scientist 1 by the Department of Science & Technology-Civil Service Commission in 2022. She also serves as an Affiliate Professor of the UPLB Graduate School-Institute of Weed Science, Entomology and Plant Pathology.
Before serving as the Project Leader, she served as the Study Leader-Efficacy of the Bt eggplant and IRM from 2004 to the present. She has undergone numerous trainings on regulation from local regulatory agency as well as training program on biosafety at Michigan State University in 2006 and short-term fellowship at the Department of Entomology, University of Minnesota under Dr. William D. Hutchison on IRM of Bt corn in August 2015 to January 2016. In November 2022, she was awarded as one of the Filipino Faces of Biotechnology by the Department of Agriculture-Biotechnology Program Office (DA-BPO). She is the lead vegetable entomologist as well as for root crops and ornamentals at the Entomology Laboratory, Institute of Plant Breeding, University of the Philippines Los Baños.
She also serves as one of the key spokespersons for the Bt eggplant for numerous public briefings, dialogues, symposia, and seminars sponsored by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agribiotech Applications (ISAAA), Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the DA-BPO.
